超级星光大道 第七届 六强排名预测 Predictions of Xing Guang Da Dao Season 7

with one comment

As the season went by, I had mental predictions as to who the top 10 would be. Sad to say, my initial top 6 had 3 people who were eliminated already. So a new prediction arrives! The reason why I decided to predict top 6 because the spoilers for the competition are out till top 8 while the competition is shown till top 12 only thus far. Hence, I don’t want to accidentally spoil who are 9th,10th,11th and 12th in case some of you may want to watch it yourselves instead. So the predictions are as follows…

6th: Pink Tan 陈珂冰 (Chen Ke Bin)

Pink Tan (Chen Ke Bin) is one of my favourite in this season. Having several solid deliveries to be darn proud of, she is not only consistently try new ways of performing a song but also you can sense the fire in her to want to win this. Other contestants don’t seem as fired up as her. However, having said all these, I don’t think the judges are convinced by her performances and she sure isn’t one of the hot favourites to win. 6th is a tad too low for me but I guess 6th is a reasonable ranking for her in terms of the judges preferences and the future marketability. An additional link to show you what the real Pink Tan is about when she came during Season 6 to PK the contestants back then: Saving all my love for you(25/25)

5th: Bai Chao Luo Meng 白潮洛蒙

I am definitely slowly but surely getting sick of Bai Chao Luo Meng’s performances. The same old singing style again and again. He started off strong in this competition well and had several songs in his bag that could touch my heart but he seemed to have plateaued. The worst thing? He doesn’t seem like he is interested enough to break out from his comfort genres. True enough he had made several so called breakthroughs by singing other languages but I don’t feel they were good enough to make him stand out. And his song choices are always so… b o r i n g. Zero singer marketability in my opinion but he does have the personality to be an artiste. Having said all that, he is one rank above Pink because the judges seem to adore him and not blame him for sticking to the same old ballads thus far.

4th: Wu Si Ai 舞思爱

Yet another contestant that has been consistently pissing me off for not breaking out of her shell. In terms of chinese songs, she has been playing safe with ballads and ballads mainly singing Amei songs which I felt was not even 75% of Amei. Then she started venturing into Aboriginal Taiwanese music and received positive reviews. At first I was partially  impressed but then I got more and more sick of it! I have nothing against aboriginal music because some really sound nice. I just feel she has been playing safe, sticking to the same old thing and even more pissed with the fact that the judges are giving her sky-high scores for performances that are so average. Overrated. I didn’t even expect her to reach top 14.

3rd: Sun Xiao Liang 孙晓亮

Am I getting biased? I am sick of him too! But I have to admit in the midst of getting sick of him, he is one of the most consistent performers in this season and his songs are always of a certain professional standard. And at least he has been putting his best foot forward to attempt more mainstream modern songs, english songs and even rearranging some old classics. I can see his desire to win this. Not only that, during the interview sessions with the host, he always portray this likeable personality and you can sense his humility. So I am more than willing to give him 3rd (unlike Wu and Bai Chao which I felt shouldn’t go this far but well, predictions are predictions… Have to be a little more objective). In terms of vocal techniques and consistency, easily the top 2 (comparable to Jess Lee) but in terms of his potential in this industry? Not so much. I can’t visualise people going gaga over him and buy his albums. Neither is his voice THAT outstanding enough to make up for his looks when compared with the other singers in the industry now. However, something to note is that he may just end up doing a kickass performance during the finals which will pull his score so high that his overall results will edge out other competitors. Hence, he does have the potential to break into top 2 as well.

2nd: Jess Lee 李佳薇 (Li Jia Wei)

The front runner of the competition since the start. First the producers created this Jess VS Wang Wen 王雯 craze. Then they created this Jess VS Erika frenzy. No doubt Jess has the vocals to make it far in this competition. Any audience can easily see this. From powerhouse performances like All by Myself to songs that require more mellow delivery such as 夜太黑 she has been nailing almost each one of them. But the problem comes, she doesn’t seem to be able to connect with the audience that well. Simply put, she cannot give what the audience associate with. Her videos are the kind that you go “WOW! That is impressive” but never will you watch the video again. 不耐听。 Celine Dion and Amei overdose from her.

My suggestion to her would be to sing more modern chinese songs that the younger audiences can be brought into. Enough of english powerhouse songs- we all know she can sing those songs but really, no point singing all these when you want to break into the Chinese music industry. Know your strengths and weaknesses. English powerhouse songs will easily be compared with the likes of Celine Dion and Whitney Houston which Jess is now pretty far away from. But I’m pretty sure she will be owning the Chinese songs which she can outperform the original singer. We need to know that she is better than the current singers around to be able to recognize the potential of her releasing an album and singing all these english classics won’t help at all. I dont think the issue here is her look because I actually find her quite pretty Hehe.

1st: Erika

I have no idea if this comes as a surprise but Erika is definitely my pick for this season. With the winner potentially being signed into Warner Music Taiwan, we need to know the type of artistes Warner is looking for. Jolin Tsai, Jam Hsiao, Amber Kuo and Nicholas Teo… Are we seeing a pattern here? Warner mainly targets on singers which have the star factor, the looks and the idolish factor in them. It’s ok if their singing are not the best of the lot but as long as they have a certain area to be outstanding and have looks that are likeable enough to garner whole lot of fans, Warner wants them. So having that in my consideration factor, Erika is a tad more advantageous to win this (Hey, its a tough fight!).

Erika after the makeover definitely exudes star quality already. And she is young. She has alot more years to practice, mature and improve which is absolutely a good news for Warner. Singing capabilities? Of course she has. Summertime, Ain’t no sunshine and 写一首歌 she has time and again rewarded viewers of the show with remarkable performances. Very marketable. She seemed to have slowed down in this stage of the competition but looking at previous winers, most of them will seem to plateau a bit in the middle stage of the competition before raising the bar and be better than before during the last part of competition.

Hence, with Erika’s charisma, personality, vocal techniques, image coupled with what Warner wants and the history of previous winners… Erika is the girl to beat! P.S- The recent discovery that Erika is a Taiwanese can be worked to her benefit because the producers may want a Taiwanese to win eventually since this is afterall, a Taiwanese show. =D
